When you do an internet search, don’t be fooled by builders who advertise themselves Loss Assessors or even Loss Adjusters. There are companies out there calling themselves Loss Assessors or Loss Adjusters but who are really nothing more than builders trying to work in and exploit the insurance claims market. They are NOT loss assessors or loss adjusters in the true, professional sense of those words.
Most insured parties are unfamiliar with the insurance claims process, and unless they take the time to carefully read and understand the policy terms and conditions, and have a thorough understanding of their rights and obligations under the policy, they can easily make mistakes... costly mistakes. Relying on a builder, who has his own profit orientated agenda, to process your claim and look after your best interest is the same as having a fox guard the chicken coop. A builder might be an expert in the building trades, but he is not an expert insurance claims handler.
A professionally qualified, independent loss assessor has a wealth of work experience gained from managing numerous high value claims of all types, which can include burglary, commercial business interruption, complex subsidence claims, and many others, over a period of many years. He has the experience and specialist knowledge to confront the repudiation or denial of a claim and turn it around, if at all possible. What’s more, he has done the required course work and been tested and qualified by a professional certifying body e.g. the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) or the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA). As such, a professional Loss Assessor is on level footing with the Loss Adjuster or any claims handler representing the insurer. To maintain his certification, a qualified and certified professional Loss Assessor pursues CPD (Continuous Professional Development), as is mandated by his professional certifying body.
